Well, many of those greenies are categorized as endemic flora, i.e. you won't find them in any other places except in Soqotra island. Some varieties are predicted to have reached more than 20 million years now.
Let's see a bit more closer..
A very weird-looking tree - and for sure - won't be seen in our neigbor's garden. It's called Dragon Blood Tree or Dracaena cinnabari. This tree, by the locals, is usually used as medicine for 'any illness'. It's told that this tree also was used as material for magical purpose during the medieval era.
Have u heard about adenium? Well, this one is the obese type (Adenium obesium) , also known for Desert Rose.
This one is said to be a family of cucumber tree. The name is Dendrosicyos socotranum.
It makes me feel weird to look at these vegetations. I catch the image of being in the mars or watching an alien movie. It's not only strange, but also amazing. Those who would like to visit this island, should ponder the facts below:
Soqotra is an island with desert tropical climate. The temperature can reach 40 celcius degree. Since its environment continuity is protected, no roads were built. The only street built was 2 years ago with complex agreement between Yemen government and UNESCO. (A camel would be very useful in this situation.)
Oh, there won't be any hotels or inns arround, so bring ur own tents, people.
It might not be a comfortable place to visit I think, to value its originality, let us just admire its beauty by looking at these pics. :D
